Educating Adults 60+

Organization Profile

The Columbus Community Center strives to be the focal point for senior srvices and programs within the Columbus area.  Our goals are to help older adults sustain healthy independence in the community by providing targeted services that keep seniors healthy, active and safe.  The program provides educational, physical, social and spiritual opportunities that engages seniors 60+ years.  In addition, we provide a strong nutritional program that offers meals both in a social setting as well as home delivered options.  Our programs encourage volunteers to take part and realize they have great assets to offer others in need.  New to our programs are technical training and caregiving support.  We are teaching seniors how to use technology through use of their cell phones as well as computers.  We are also engaging our seniors in the art of caregiving- whether it is for a spouse, sibling, child or even a neighbor.

Project Description

Due to the increased usage of the Columbus Community Center, the gap between the number of services and meals provided and revenue received continues to widen creating a financial deficiency. We would like to continue to increase the numbers of participants and services offered at the Community Center, but increased revenue is needed. The Columbus Community Center strives to be a focal point in the community for seniors, creating a fun, safe and engaging atmosphere through programs and services such as nutritional support through diet classes and exercise programs. Adult education programs such as health and wellness, technology, financial, legal and safety. We continue to provide ongoing free clinics such as blood pressure, hearing, flu and immunization shots. We have a state of the art Loop system that allows the hearing impaired the opportunity to participate in an array of both educational and entertainment opportunities.
